Egypt-Israel cooperation

Today’s Al-Masry al-Youm paper in Cairo carries rare confirmation of Egypt-Israel military cooperation, with the characteristic caveat that it’s nothing serious. In fact, Israel has maintained its ties with the Egyptian military non-stop, through two revolutions and two coups. The two countries are cooperating in the fight against the jihadis in Sinai, though Israel’s fingerprints are rarely found. The key has been to keep the cooperation quiet. Egypt suffers from the pan-Arab tendency to blame Israel for everything that’s wrong everywhere. Failed governments across the region have used Israel as a scapegoat for their own shortcomings, and it’s part of the character of the area by now. That hasn’t stopped Israel from maintaining its ties with Egypt behind the scenes. The US could learn from this if anyone in Washington is listening. Here’s the link to the newspaper article:
